Désireé
Désirée is a French name often given to women in the Puritan colony of New England in the seventeenth century. Paradoxically, a name with such sensual connotations was used by such a strict sect. The English version of this word defines a deep desire or obsession with something we don’t have. “I’m intrigued by the transmission and permanent evolution and transience of names, layers of meanings, systems, and symbols moving along the lines of literal symbolism and exposed emotions, contributing to the constantly developing visual vocabulary drawing inspiration from medieval sculpture, folk art, excesses of the past century, silent movies, iconography, personal and social history,” explains sculptor Richard Štipl.
