Jan Kovářík
Bio
Jan Kovářík (1980) is a Czech sculptor, graduate of the Sculpture Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Due to his background in ceramics, his perception of color and mass has formed since childhood. His artworks typically feature biomorphic objects based on the psychological effect of color and shape. He focuses on closed and open forms, objects shaped like mattresses and clouds, deformed objects and large-scale, formally rich installations made of combined materials. He won several competitions for the realization of sculptures in public space.
His best-known realizations include the Maria Theresa memorial at the Powder Bridge in Prague (2020) and the Roubíček family tombstone at the New Jewish Cemetery in Prague (2021). In 2023, he created the monumental site-specific intervention Concentration at the St. Salvator Church in Prague.
